7.3. Connecting Claude Desktop to the HelpSpot MCP Server

This guide walks you through connecting Claude Desktop to the HelpSpot MCP server.
Before You Begin
- You have access to the HelpSpot admin area.
- MCP is enabled in your HelpSpot instance.
- Claude Desktop is installed.
Step 1: Get Your HelpSpot MCP Server URL
- Log in to your HelpSpot admin area.
- Go to Settings.
- Select MCP.
- Enable the MCP server if it is not already enabled.
- Copy the MCP Server URL.
Step 2: Add the MCP Server to Claude Desktop
- Open Claude Desktop.
- Select Customize Connectors.
- Click Add New Connector.
- Choose Custom Connector.
- Enter a connector name, such as HelpSpot.
- Paste your HelpSpot MCP Server URL.
- Click Add.
Step 3: Authenticate the Connection
- Click Connect next to your HelpSpot connector.
- Complete the authorization prompt in your browser.
- Approve the request.
- Choose Open Link when prompted.
Step 4: Configure MCP Tool Permissions
After authentication, review the available MCP tool permissions and enable or disable tools as needed.
Step 5: Start Using HelpSpot in Claude Desktop
Once connected, you can ask Claude Desktop questions about your HelpSpot instance, including ticket lookups, customer conversations, and other HelpSpot data available through MCP.
Troubleshooting
The MCP option does not appear in HelpSpot
Make sure your HelpSpot installation supports MCP and that the feature is enabled.
Authentication fails
- Confirm the MCP Server URL is correct.
- Make sure your browser allows the authorization window.
- Try reconnecting the connector in Claude Desktop.
Claude Desktop cannot access HelpSpot data
Check the MCP tool permissions and confirm the required tools are enabled.
