4.1. Filter Management

Updated: 10 Sep 2026, 01:40 PM EDT

Administrators can review every filter in the system at Admin > System > Filter Management.

The page has two tables. Recent Problem Filters lists the filters HelpSpot considers slow. All Filters lists everything, including other staff members' personal filters.

For each filter it shows Today's Avg Speed and Runs, and 2 Week Avg Speed and Runs — averages and volumes in seconds, not individual execution times. System filters such as the Inbox are not tracked here; only saved user filters are.

What counts as slow

The threshold is 0.2 seconds, and it is fixed — there is no setting for it.

A filter appears in Recent Problem Filters when its two-week average run time is above 0.2 seconds. Today's average does not affect whether a filter is listed, so a filter that has become slow only today will not appear there yet. Both speed columns are shown in red when the figure they contain is above 0.2 seconds, in either table.

How long the data lasts

Performance data is kept for 15 days and purged by the daily maintenance job. The averages are taken over the last two weeks, so there is roughly a day of data on hand beyond what the table reports — the two numbers are meant to be different, not a rounding of each other.

Using it

Each row links into the filter editor and offers a delete link, so an administrator can fix or remove a filter belonging to anyone.

Look for filters with very broad conditions — they are the usual cause of a slow workspace. See Filter Conditions Reference for what each condition actually asks the database, and Filter Caching and Performance for how often a filter's count is recalculated.
